Lowering the Crib
I need to follow-up on my previous post on making cribs safer for infants, since last week we lowered our baby’s crib. I didn’t think it would be a big deal, but man, now she looks like she’s in jail! Before, the bars were covered by little pillows that lined the sides of the crib and were to prevent her from banging into the bars/rails. Now those pillows are still there, but they’re much lower - as is she - and so the bars extend up a good ways, making it look like she’s way-down deep, in a bit of a “jail-hole”.
Our timing couldn’t have been better though, as now, suddenly, she’s sitting up in there! She was a little slow to sit up, but I do believe that wasn’t because she couldn’t do it, but because she only wanted to sit up from a straight-back-lying-down position. In other words, she would basically try and do a sit-up to sit herself up, which used nothing but her baby stomach muscles, and is something that even I have trouble doing! Now she sits herself up by rolling onto her belly, pushing herself up with her arms, and then pushing back until she gets herself onto her behind, sitting up.
It was quite cute this past weekend when my wife called me to come and look. We were, of course, trying to get the little baby girl to go to sleep, but that was secondary to her suddenly just sitting up so that she could look around while she fussed about having to be left in there all alone for her naptime.
Here’s a pic so you can kind of see a bit of what I’m talking about. She’s sleeping in the crib, and it’s a bit fuzzy given that I took a picture of the video monitor’s screen.
Hmm…it does kind of look like one of those old LOST TV monitors, minus the green glow, doesn’t it? Eeek!
