Spam Made Me Late for Work
This is no excuse here – I showed up late for work today because of spam email.
That’s right. I use my cell phone as my alarm clock. It checks my email. I got so much spam overnight, apparently all of which was downloaded to my cell phone, that my phone just ran out of juice and died.
Here is a screenshot of my Inbox (NOT my spam folder, which had more than 5000 emails in it this morning):

I use Google’s Gmail to host my personal email account (with the Schellack.net domain). Whatever happened last night/early this morning, they sure were having difficulty keeping up.
Anybody else out there experiencing an uptick in spam? Most of what I got looks like auto-reply spam, or, the kind of spam where someone hits an email account with a spam email that the spammer knows will get replied to, so the spammer sets the “reply-to” property of the original spam email as someone else’s email address, so that the spammer gets a 2-for-1 deal, since the spam email will also, then, be sent to someone like me. This is, of course, an excellent reason for why you should not use auto-reply on an email account.
